Installing a  power factor correction device like the Power Save 1200 can help to increase the power factor, which is a measurement of the efficiency of energy usage (see explanation of Power Factor below). By increasing the power factor you can often achieve energy savings of from 15-30%. These power savers have helped many home owners across the country minimize energy waste and lower their electricity usage and their electric bills without sacrificing comfort, and convenience. The Power Save 1200 is UL listed (No. ABET 2201) and CSA certified, and has been endorsed by the Department of Energy as a means of lowering energy consumption. For examples of user results, please check out our Testimonials page.

Electricity in the U.S. come mostly from non-renewable sources, coal (48%), natural gas (21.3%), nuclear (19.6%), and petroleum (11%). Renewable energy make up approximately 9%, of that 6% is hydroelectric. Solar, wind, and other renewables make up only about 3% of our electric supply. Needless to say, we are a long way from fossil fuel independence. However, that does not mean that we cannot cut down on our carbon footprint.

For a long time, electricity in this country costs only pennies a kilowatt -hour (KWH). That is no longer the case. In recent years, communities across America has seen their electric bills go up. Most households now pay 8-20 cents a KWH. In some places like New York, it is over 20 cents, and Hawaii over 30 cents. This upward trend will like continue in the foreseeable future. In order to minimize the impact of rising energy cost, many households across America have installed power savers. The Power Save 1200 (PS1200) is an example of such power savers. They help to lower electricity usage by improving the power factor. The following diagrammatic representation and explanation provided by the US Department of Energy will help you understand the importance of correcting the power factor.

Power factor is the ratio of  real (working) power to the apparent (total) power. If the working power is the same as the total power, then the system has an efficiency of 100%, or a power factor = 1. However, with inductive loads such as transformers, electric motors and high-intensity discharge lighting, some of the power drawn is wasted resulting in a low power factor. This can be compared to the situation as shown in the diagram of the horse pulling a cart from the side of a track, because of the angle of the pull, not all the horse's effort is used to move the cart along the track. Depending on the angle of pull, only a portion of the energy will result in useful working power. A portion of that energy (called reactive energy) is wasted. In the average US households, this wasted energy can be anywhere within the range of 15 to 30%, or a power factor = 0.65 to 0.85. Installing a Power Save 1200 power saver will help to correct this power factor misalignment and eliminate this energy waste, thus saving you money in lowered electric bills.
